The City of Natchez Inspection Department goal is to ensure that new and existing buildings are constructed and maintained in a manner that promotes safety and includes accepted standards of construction, remodeling, and restoration. In addition to international accepted practices, The City of Natchez Inspections Department interprets and enforces the City of Natchez Code of Ordinances, to ensure all buildings are compliant.
The City of Natchez Inspection Department provides:
- Daily inspections of new construction, renovation, restoration and electrical turn-on request.
- Works with local electricity company, Entergy to ensure safe electrical power supply to
residences and commercial buildings - Coordinates all water and sewer taps with the Natchez Water Works
- Investigates citizen inquiries regarding substandard buildings, unsafe housing, neglected
properties and other building related issues - Provides repairs to the electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems in various City of Natchez
buildings
The City of Natchez Inspection Department consist of the Building Official, Mechanical Inspector/Maintenance Superintendant, Electrical Inspector, Plumbing Inspector, two Code Enforcement Officers and a Secretary.

The current codes enforced by the City of Natchez are 2003 International Building Code and 2002 National Electric Code
